2nd Annual River Clean-Up nets over 1300 pounds

of trash from the Topock Gorge!

Topock, AZ, October 3, 2015: The Kiwanis of the Colorado River partnered up with Capt. Doyle's Fun Fishing Guide Service and Topock66 Spa & Resort to host their 2nd Annual Rockin' River Clean-Up event on Saturday, October 3, 2015. Fifteen boats and nearly 80 volunteers hauled off over 1300 pounds of trash, 311 Flip Flops, and 180 pounds of Recyclables from the water and beaches along the Topock Gorge.

It was a perfect day for the event with sunny skies and barely a breeze. 15 Boats filled with volunteers launched at the Topock 66 Marina and headed down river through the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge. While enjoying the beautiful scenery the volunteers cleaned nearly 8 miles of the river, they collected a variety of interesting items including a truck bed liner, part of a sofa and lightbulbs! A delicious lunch was served by the Topock 66 Marina, and special prizes were awarded; First boat to sign up – Chris Smith, Most Trash – Jamie Gustafson, Biggest Item – Holly Lundgren, Most Flip Flops – Troy & April Garrett, Most Valuable – Julie Fern, Most Recycling – Bob & Laura Ensley, Scavenger Hunt – Lambert Brothers and the River Warrior award goes to Mr. Daniel Zard of Mohave Valley who singlehandedly operated his boat and collected trash! Great Job!

A special thank you to our Amazing Volunteers! Volunteers from the River Valley High School Key Club, Colorado River Girl Scout Troop 1512, the Golden Shores Offroaders Club, the Kiwanis of the Colorado River and many more environmentally conscientious folks all rallied to make the event a HUGE success.
